Arson Paper
ARSONâ⬠¦ WHAT IS IT? Krystle Lamb Houston Community College Criminal Justice 1301 ABSTRACT Arson is one of the worldââ¬â¢s oldest known crimes. It can cost a life or a generous amount of money in damages. Even though it can take a personââ¬â¢s life, arson is classified as a property crime to law enforcement agencies. It is time consuming and very difficult to investigate. Only twenty percent of arrests result in a conviction because it is classified as a ââ¬Å"property crimeâ⬠rather than a violent crime. The motives of arson range from profit to murder. People who use arson use it because itââ¬â¢s a quick easy act of terrorism to a person or company they are trying to hurt. I believe there should be more and better adequate training for investigators and prosecutors to put away the people that can commit such a crime. The United States has one of the highest fire death rates in the world. In 1998 the ââ¬Å"NFPA reported about 14. 9 deaths per million population. Between 1994 and 1998 about 4,400 Americans died and about 35,100 were injured yearly. Also about 100 firefighters a year lost their lives in their hazardous job related duties. (http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Arson) Fires kill more Americans a year than natural disasters combined. Arson is the most expensive crime committed, this can be attributed to the several factors which are the lack of education on the problems of arson, and prosecutors do not want to take on the case because of circumstantial evidence, quick payments from insurance companies, and inadequate train ing for investigators. Legal arson is categorized in two categories; aggravated arson and arson. ââ¬Å"Aggravated arson is burning of property while endangering human life. Arson is burning of property that does not include the risk of human life. ââ¬Å" (http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Arson) Fire crime scenes begin like any other investigation. The trick is to connect the suspect to the crime. There are clues to determine if a fire is suspicious or not. For example, the color of the flames has to do with the accelerant use. Like alcohol burn with a blue-orange flame. The descriptions are usually gained from the witnesses. The odor of smoke can explain what material was used to start the fire. Before a fire is visible, the smoke can be observed. If the smoke is black then it is petroleum based. If the smoke is a white color the vegetation material was used (hay or straw. ) If the structure is completely engulfed in flames then it is difficult to determine which material was set to burn. The size of the fire gives the investigator information if it was arson or not. For instance, if a building is engulfed in flames in a short period of time, then that might be because of arson. Natural fire tends to burn at a slower steadier pace with a natural pattern but this is circumstantial. One of the articles that I decided to write about was the incident that took place at the beginning of September in Needville, TX. ââ¬Å"It was a fire that burned 400 acres and charred a barn in the Needville area and was intentionally set, officialsà said. The blaze started at the corner of a pasture on Foster School Road near Brinkmeyer on Sept. 7, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff'sà Office. The blaze raced southwest and jumped Baker Road. It also destroyed a facility that housed two vehicles and travelà tailer. More than 100 firefighters from 20 agencies from nearby areas, including the Needville Fire Department, battled theà blaze. In conclusion, arson is a very serious crime and should be taken very seriously when one is criminally charged. Way too much money is lost, as well as the lives of others who are less fortunate. The Host Chapter 33: Doubted
Another splash. Kyle's weight tortured my arms. ââ¬Å"Wanda? Wanda!â⬠ââ¬Å"Help me! Kyle! The floor! Help!â⬠I had my face pressed against the stone, my eyes toward the cave entrance. The light was bright overhead as the day dawned. I held my breath. My arms screamed. ââ¬Å"Wanda! Where are you?â⬠Ian leaped through the door, the rifle in his hands, held low and ready. His face was the angry mask his brother had worn. ââ¬Å"Watch out!â⬠I screamed at him. ââ¬Å"The floor is breaking up! I can't hold him much longer!â⬠It took him two long seconds to process the scene that was so different from the one he'd been expecting-Kyle, trying to kill me. The scene that had been, just seconds ago. Then he threw the gun to the cave floor and started toward me with a long stride. ââ¬Å"Get down-disperse your weight!â⬠He dropped to all fours and scuttled to me, his eyes burning in the light of dawn. ââ¬Å"Don't let go,â⬠he cautioned. I groaned in pain. He assessed for another second, and then slid his body behind mine, pushing me closer to the rock. His arms were longer than mine. Even with me in the way, he was able to get his hands around his brother. ââ¬Å"One, two, three,â⬠he grunted. He pulled Kyle up against the rock, much more securely than I'd had him. The movement smashed my face into the pillar. The bad side, though-it couldn't get much more scarred at this point. ââ¬Å"I'm going to pull him to this side. Can you squeeze out?â⬠ââ¬Å"I'll try.â⬠I loosened my hold on Kyle, feeling my shoulders ache in relief, making sure Ian had him. Then I wriggled out from between Ian and the rock, careful not to put myself on a dangerous section of the floor. I crawled backward a few feet toward the door, ready to make a grab for Ian if he started slipping. Ian hauled his inert brother around one side of the pillar, dragging him in jerks, a foot at a time. More of the floor crumbled, but the foundation of the pillar remained intact. A new shelf formed about two feet out from the column of rock. Ian crawled backward the way I had, dragging his brother along in short surges of muscle and will. Within a minute, we were all three in the mouth of the corridor, Ian and I breathing in gasps. ââ¬Å"Whatâ⬠¦ the hellâ⬠¦ happened?â⬠ââ¬Å"Our weightâ⬠¦ was tooâ⬠¦ much. Floor caved in.â⬠ââ¬Å"What were you doingâ⬠¦ by the edge? With Kyle?â⬠I put my head down and concentrated on breathing. Well, tell him. What will happen then? You know what will happen. Kyle broke the rules. Jeb will shoot him, or they'll kick him out. Maybe Ian will beat the snot out of him first. That would be fun to watch. Melanie didn't really mean it-I didn't think so, anyway. She was just still mad at me for risking our lives to save our would-be murderer. Exactly, I told her. And if they kick Kyle out for meâ⬠¦ or kill himâ⬠¦ I shuddered. Well, can't you see how little sense that would make? He's one of you. We've got a life here, Wanda. You're jeopardizing that. It's my life, too. And I'mâ⬠¦ well, I'm me. Melanie groaned in disgust. ââ¬Å"Wanda?â⬠Ian demanded. ââ¬Å"Nothing,â⬠I muttered. ââ¬Å"You're a rotten liar. You know that, right?â⬠I kept my head down and breathed. ââ¬Å"What did he do?â⬠ââ¬Å"Nothing,â⬠I lied. Poorly. Ian put his hand under my chin, pulled my face up. ââ¬Å"Your nose is bleeding.â⬠He twisted my head to the side. ââ¬Å"And there's more blood in your hair.â⬠ââ¬Å"I-hit my head when the floor fell.â⬠ââ¬Å"On both sides?â⬠I shrugged. Ian glared at me for a long moment. The darkness of the tunnel muted the brilliance of his eyes. ââ¬Å"We should get Kyle to Doc-he really cracked his head when he went down.â⬠ââ¬Å"Why are you protecting him? He tried to kill you.â⬠It was a statement of fact, not a question. His expression slowly melted from anger to horror. He was imagining what we had been doing on that unstable shelf-I could see that in his eyes. When I did not answer, he spoke again in a whisper. ââ¬Å"He was going to throw you in the riverâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ A strange tremor shook his body. Ian had one arm around Kyle-he'd collapsed that way and seemed too tired to move. Now he shoved his unconscious brother away roughly, sliding farther from him in disgust. He slid into me and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. He pulled me close against his chest-I could feel his breath go in and out, still more ragged than normal. It felt very strange. ââ¬Å"I should roll him right back in there and kick him over the edge myself.â⬠I shook my head frantically, making it throb in pain. ââ¬Å"No.â⬠ââ¬Å"Saves time. Jeb made the rules clear. You try to hurt someone here, there are penalties. There'll be a tribunal.â⬠I tried to pull away from him, but he tightened his grip. It wasn't frightening, not like the way Kyle had grabbed me. But it was upsetting-it threw me off balance. ââ¬Å"No. You can't do that, because no one broke the rules. The floor collapsed, that's all.â⬠ââ¬Å"Wanda -ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"He's your brother.â⬠ââ¬Å"He knew what he was doing. He's my brother, yes, but he did what he did, and you areâ⬠¦ you areâ⬠¦ my friend.â⬠ââ¬Å"He did nothing. He is human,â⬠I whispered. ââ¬Å"This is his place, not mine.â⬠ââ¬Å"We're not having this discussion again. Your definition of human is not the same as mine. To you, it means somethingâ⬠¦ negative. To me, it's a compliment-and by my definition, you are and he isn't. Not after this.â⬠ââ¬Å"Human isn't a negative to me. I know you now. But Ian, he's your brother.â⬠ââ¬Å"A fact that shames me.â⬠I pushed away from him again. This time, he let me go. It might have had something to do with the moan of pain that escaped my lips when I moved my leg. ââ¬Å"Are you okay?â⬠ââ¬Å"I think so. We need to find Doc, but I don't know if I can walk. I-I hit my leg, when I fell.â⬠A growl strangled in his throat. ââ¬Å"Which leg? Let me see.â⬠I tried to straighten out my hurt leg-it was the right one-and groaned again. His hands started at my ankle, testing the bones, the joints. He rotated my ankle carefully. ââ¬Å"Higher. Here.â⬠I pulled his hand to the back of my thigh, just above the knee. I moaned again when he pressed the sore place. ââ¬Å"It's not broken or anything, I don't think. Just really sore.â⬠ââ¬Å"Deep muscle bruise, at least,â⬠he muttered. ââ¬Å"And how did this happen?â⬠ââ¬Å"Must haveâ⬠¦ landed on a rock when I fell.â⬠He sighed. ââ¬Å"Okay, let's get you to Doc.â⬠ââ¬Å"Kyle needs him more than I do.â⬠ââ¬Å"I have to go find Doc anyway-or some help. I can't carry Kyle that far, but I can certainly carry you. Oops-hold on.â⬠He turned abruptly and ducked back into the river room. I decided I wouldn't argue with him. I wanted to see Walter beforeâ⬠¦ Doc had promised to wait for me. Would that first dose of painkiller wear off soon? My head swam. There was so much to worry about, and I was so tired. The adrenaline had drained, leaving me empty. Ian came back with the gun. I frowned because this reminded me that I'd wished for it before. I didn't like that. ââ¬Å"Let's go.â⬠Without thinking, he handed the gun to me. I let it fall into my open palms, but I couldn't curl my hands around it. I decided it was a suitable punishment, to have to carry the thing. Ian chuckled. ââ¬Å"How anyone could be afraid of youâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ he mumbled to himself. He picked me up easily and was moving before I was settled. I tried to keep the tenderest parts-the back of my head, the back of my leg-from resting on him too hard. ââ¬Å"How'd your clothes get so wet?â⬠he asked. We were passing under one of the fist-sized skylights, and I could see the hint of a grim smile on his pale lips. ââ¬Å"I don't know,â⬠I muttered. ââ¬Å"Steam?â⬠We passed into darkness again. ââ¬Å"You're missing a shoe.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh.â⬠We passed through another beam of light, and his eyes flashed sapphire. They were serious now, locked on my face. ââ¬Å"I'mâ⬠¦ very glad that you weren't hurt, Wanda. Hurt worse, I should say.â⬠I didn't answer. I was afraid of giving him something to use against Kyle. Jeb found us just before we hit the big cave. There was enough light for me to see the sharp glint of curiosity in his eyes when he saw me in Ian's arms, face bleeding, the gun resting gingerly on my open hands. ââ¬Å"You were right, then,â⬠Jeb guessed. The curiosity was strong, but the steel in his tone was stronger. His jaw was tight beneath the fan of his beard. ââ¬Å"I didn't hear a shot. Kyle?â⬠ââ¬Å"He's unconscious,â⬠I said in a rush. ââ¬Å"You need to warn everyone-part of the floor collapsed in the river room. I don't know how stable it is now. Kyle hit his head really hard trying to get out of the way. He needs Doc.â⬠Jeb raised one eyebrow so high it almost touched the faded bandanna at his hairline. ââ¬Å"That's the story,â⬠Ian said, making no effort to conceal his doubt. ââ¬Å"And she's apparently sticking to it.â⬠Jeb laughed. ââ¬Å"Let me take that off your hands,â⬠he said to me. I let him have the gun willingly. He laughed again at my expression. ââ¬Å"I'll get Andy and Brandt to help me with Kyle. We'll follow behind you.â⬠ââ¬Å"Keep a close eye on him when he wakes up,â⬠Ian said in a hard tone. ââ¬Å"Can do.â⬠Jeb slouched off, looking for more hands. Ian hurried me toward the hospital cave. ââ¬Å"Kyle could be really hurtâ⬠¦ Jeb should hurry.â⬠ââ¬Å"Kyle's head is harder than any rock in this place.â⬠The long tunnel felt longer than usual. Was Kyle dying, despite my efforts? Was he conscious again and looking for me? What about Walter? Was he sleepingâ⬠¦ or gone? Had the Seeker given up her hunt, or would she be back now that it was light again? Will Jared still be with Doc? Mel added her questions to mine. Will he be angry when he sees you? Will he know me? When we reached the sunlit southern cave, Jared and Doc didn't look like they'd moved much. They leaned, side by side, against Doc's makeshift desk. It was quiet as we approached. They weren't talking, just watching Walter sleep. They started up with wide eyes as Ian carried me into the light and laid me on the cot next to Walter's. He straightened my right leg carefully. Walter was snoring. That sound eased some of my tension. ââ¬Å"What now?â⬠Doc demanded angrily. He was bending over me as soon as the words were out, wiping at the blood on my cheek. Jared's face was frozen in surprise. He was being careful, not letting the expression give way to anything else. ââ¬Å"Kyle,â⬠Ian answered at the same time that I said, ââ¬Å"The floor -ââ¬Å" Doc looked back and forth between us, confused. Ian sighed and rolled his eyes. Absently, he laid one hand lightly on my forehead. ââ¬Å"The floor crumbled by the first river hole. Kyle fell back and cracked his head on a rock. Wanda saved his worthless life. She says she fell, too, when the floor gave.â⬠Ian gave Doc a meaningful look. ââ¬Å"Something,â⬠he said the word sarcastically, ââ¬Å"bashed the back of her head pretty good.â⬠He started listing. ââ¬Å"Her nose is bleeding but not broken, I don't think. She's got some damage to the muscle here.â⬠He touched my sore thigh. ââ¬Å"Knees sliced up pretty good, got her face again, but I think maybe I did that, trying to pull Kyle out of the hole. Shouldn't have bothered.â⬠Ian muttered the last part. ââ¬Å"Anything else?â⬠Doc asked. At that moment, his fingers, probing along my side, reached the place where Kyle had punched me. I gasped. Doc tugged my shirt up, and I heard both Ian and Jared hiss at what they saw. ââ¬Å"Let me guess,â⬠Ian said in a voice like ice. ââ¬Å"You fell on a rock.â⬠ââ¬Å"Good guess,â⬠I agreed, breathless. Doc was still touching my side, and I was trying to hold back whimpers. ââ¬Å"Might have broken a rib, not sure,â⬠Doc murmured. ââ¬Å"I wish I could give you something for the pain -ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Don't worry about that, Doc,â⬠I panted. ââ¬Å"I'm okay. How's Walter? Did he wake up at all?â⬠ââ¬Å"No, it will take some time to sleep that dose off,â⬠Doc said. He took my hand and started bending my wrist, my elbow. ââ¬Å"I'm okay.â⬠His kind eyes were soft as he met my gaze. ââ¬Å"You will be. You'll just have to rest for a while. I'll keep an eye on you. Here, turn your head.â⬠I did as he asked, and then winced while he examined my wound. ââ¬Å"Not here,â⬠Ian muttered. I couldn't see Doc, but Jared threw Ian a sharp look. ââ¬Å"They're bringing Kyle. I'm not having them in the same room.â⬠Doc nodded. ââ¬Å"Probably wise.â⬠ââ¬Å"I'll get a place ready for her. I'll need you to keep Kyle here untilâ⬠¦ until we decide what to do with him.â⬠I started to speak, but Ian put his fingers on my lips. ââ¬Å"All right,â⬠Doc agreed. ââ¬Å"I'll tie him down, if you want.â⬠ââ¬Å"If we have to. Is it okay to move her?â⬠Ian glanced toward the tunnel, his face anxious. Doc hesitated. ââ¬Å"No,â⬠I whispered, Ian's fingers still touching my mouth. ââ¬Å"Walter. I want to be here for Walter.â⬠ââ¬Å"You've saved all the lives you can save today, Wanda,â⬠Ian said, his voice gentle and sad. ââ¬Å"I want to sayâ⬠¦ to say good-goodbye.â⬠Ian nodded. Then he looked at Jared. ââ¬Å"Can I trust you?â⬠Jared's face flushed with anger. Ian held up his hand. ââ¬Å"I don't want to leave her here unprotected while I find her a safe place,â⬠Ian said. ââ¬Å"I don't know if Kyle will be conscious when he arrives. If Jeb shoots him, it will upset her. But you and Doc should be able to handle him. I don't want Doc to be on his own, and force Jeb's hand.â⬠Jared spoke through clenched teeth. ââ¬Å"Doc won't be on his own.â⬠Ian hesitated. ââ¬Å"She's been through hell in the past couple of days. Remember that.â⬠Jared nodded once, teeth still clamped together. ââ¬Å"I'll be here,â⬠Doc reminded Ian. Ian met his gaze. ââ¬Å"Okay.â⬠He leaned over me, and his luminous eyes held mine. ââ¬Å"I'll be back soon. Don't be afraid.â⬠ââ¬Å"I'm not.â⬠He ducked in and touched his lips to my forehead. No one was more surprised than I, though I heard Jared gasp quietly. My mouth hung open as Ian wheeled and nearly sprinted from the room. I heard Doc pull a breath in through his teeth, like a backward whistle. ââ¬Å"Well,â⬠he said. They both stared at me for a long moment. I was so tired and sore, I barely cared what they were thinking. ââ¬Å"Doc -â⬠Jared started to say something in an urgent tone, but a clamor from the tunnel interrupted him. Five men struggled through the opening. Jeb, in front, had Kyle's left leg in his arms. Wes had the right leg, and behind them, Andy and Aaron worked to support his torso. Kyle's head lolled back over Andy's shoulder. ââ¬Å"Stars, but he's heavy,â⬠Jeb grunted. Jared and Doc sprang forward to help. After a few minutes of cursing and groaning, Kyle was lying on a cot a few feet away from mine. ââ¬Å"How long has he been out, Wanda?â⬠Doc asked me. He pulled Kyle's eyelids back, letting the sunlight shine into his pupils. ââ¬Å"Umâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ I thought quickly. ââ¬Å"As long as I've been here, the ten minutes or so it took Ian to carry me here, and then maybe five more minutes before that?â⬠ââ¬Å"At least twenty minutes, would you say?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes. Close to that.â⬠While we were consulting, Jeb had made his own diagnosis. No one paid any attention as he came to stand at the head of Kyle's cot. No one paid any attention-until he turned an open bottle of water over Kyle's face. ââ¬Å"Jeb,â⬠Doc complained, knocking his hand away. But Kyle sputtered and blinked, and then moaned. ââ¬Å"What happened? Where did it go?â⬠He started to shift his weight, trying to look around. ââ¬Å"The floorâ⬠¦ is movingâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Kyle's voice had my fingers clenching the sides of my cot and panic washing through me. My leg ached. Could I limp away? Slowly, perhapsâ⬠¦ ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËS okay,â⬠someone murmured. Not someone. I would always know that voice. Jared moved to stand between my cot and Kyle's, his back to me, his eyes on the big man. Kyle rolled his head back and forth, groaning. ââ¬Å"You're safe,â⬠Jared said in a low voice. He didn't look at me. ââ¬Å"Don't be afraid.â⬠I took a deep breath. Melanie wanted to touch him. His hand was close to mine, resting on the edge of my cot. Please, no, I told her. My face hurts quite enough as it is! He won't hit you. You think. I'm not willing to risk it. Melanie sighed; she yearned to move toward him. It wouldn't have been so hard to bear if I weren't yearning also. Give him time, I pleaded. Let him get used to us. Wait till he really believes. She sighed again. ââ¬Å"Aw, hell!â⬠Kyle grumbled. My gaze flickered toward him at the sound of his voice. I could just see his bright eyes around Jared's elbow, focused on me. ââ¬Å"It didn't fall!â⬠he complained.

Explain how to support children and young peopleââ¬â¢s self-confidence and self-esteem Essay
It is important to support childrenââ¬â¢s confidence and self-esteem because it will help them grow into confident adults. Support will add value, faith and confidence and they will be more likely to lead a happy and productive adult life. Self-esteem is a way a child feels about themselves. Everyone has it in different degrees. A child with high self-esteem generally feels good about themselves and feels they have a lot to offer. A child with low or poor self-esteem generally feels worthless and that they have little to contribute. Without positive self-esteem it is highly unlikely that a child would have a full, happy and productive life. The development of self-esteem starts very early in life. For example, when a child learns to walk or talk they feel a sense of having achieved something. Praise and encouragement at this point from parents, or people important in their life, boosts the positive feelings they have about themselves and encourages the child to go on achieving. Love, praise and encouragement are essential elements in helping a child develop a positive self-esteem. Be positive and affirming of the child/young person in all situations. Believe in the child/young person and show it ââ¬â let them know they are a worthwhile, lovable individual. Give praise and positive feedback ââ¬â children and young people measure their worth and achievements by what other people think of them. For example, you might say ââ¬Å"Well done, that was hard, and you managed it, clever boy/girlâ⬠Reassure them that itââ¬â¢s OK to make mistakes and that itââ¬â¢s all part of growing up. Avoid being too critical ââ¬â this directly damages confidence. Acknowledge their feelings ââ¬â and help them express their feelings in words. For example, encourage them to say, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m upset becauseâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ or ââ¬Å"I feel happy whenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Focus on strengths, not weaknesses highlight the things they are good at. Respect the childââ¬â¢s interestââ¬â¢s comment to show youââ¬â¢re listening. Accept that their anxieties are real to them, e.g. fear of monsters in the dark ââ¬â even if they seem trivial to you, donââ¬â¢t just brush them aside. Encourage independence ââ¬â encourage them to take chances and try new things. Succeeding gives a huge boost to confidence, and sometimes they will need to learn by their mistakes. Focus on their successes, whatever they can succeed at. Donââ¬â¢t focus on their failures. Help children discover and develop their talents. Finding something that they are good at provides a huge boost to their feelings of self-worth. Make sure your expectations of them are achievable and realistic. A small success boosts self-esteem while failures can chip away at their self-esteem. Make it easier for children to succeed and shine. If you are feeling particularly good about the child tell them. Children often hear negative comments but what you want them to remember and to take forward with them are positive thoughts. Sometimes small group works or just talking at circle time encouraging them to talk about things they enjoy. Help make them feel included in decision making and answer their questions in a thoughtful way

7 Chankras Essay Example for Free
7 Chankras Essay ? Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning spinning wheel. Chakras are part of the subtle anatomy. The seven major chakras line up from the crown of the head to the base of the spine and connect to various endocrine glands. Each major chakra is directly associated with many aspects of the mind-body-spirit dynamic. When a specific chakra is closed, distorted, or congested, the perception of stress, disease, or illness may result (Seaward, 2012, p. 72.) Of the seven major subtle energy chakras, Western culture only recognizes the seventh chakra, known as the crown chakra. The first chakra is known as the root chakra. It is found at the base of the spine. This chakra is associated with safety and security issues; it represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded (ââ¬Å"The 7 Chakras for Beginners,â⬠2009.) Furthermore, the root chakra is connected energetically to some organs of the reproductive system, hip joints, lower back, and pelvic area. Some health issues that are believed to correspond with disturbances of the root chakra include lower-back pain, sciatica, rectal difficulties, and some cancers (Seaward, 2012, p. 73.) Some of the emotional issues tied to the root chakra include survival issues such as financial independence, money, and food (ââ¬Å"The 7 Chakras for Beginners,â⬠2009.) This chakra is known as the seat of the Kundalini energy, a spiritually based concept that is yet to be understood in Western culture (Seaward, 2012, p. 73.) If the Western Culture were to accept the root chakra, it would promote a deep, person al relationship with Earth and nature. When one is rooted in life, they are filled with satisfaction, stability and inner strength (ââ¬Å"The Human Chakra System,â⬠2009.) The second chakra, known as the sacral chakra, is associated with the sex organs, as well as personal power in terms of business and social relationships (Seaward, 2012, p. 74.) It describes our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences. It is located in the lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel and 2 inches in (ââ¬Å"The 7 Chakras for Beginners,â⬠2009.) The sacral charka deals with emotional feelings that are associated with issues of sexuality, sense of abundance, pleasure, and self-worth. When self-worth is viewed through external means like money, job, or sexuality, this created an energy distortion in this region. Obsessiveness with material gain is believed to be a means to compensate for low self-worth, therefore, created a distortion to this chakra. Some of the symptoms associated with this chakra include menstrual difficulties, infertility, vaginal infections, ovarian cysts, impotency, lower-back pain, sexual dysfunction, slipped disks, and b ladder and urinary infections (Seaward, 2012, p. 74.) Accepting the sacral chakra would encourage people to more easily open themselves towards others, especially the opposite sex (ââ¬Å"The Human Chakra System,â⬠2009.) The solar plexus chakra, located in the upper stomach region, is the third chakra. This chakra feeds into the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, including the abdomen, small intestine, colon, gallbladder, kidneys, liver, pancreas, adrenal glands, and spleen. This region is associated with self-confidence, self-respect, and empowerment (Seaward, 2012, p. 74.) It relates to our ability to be confident and in-control of our lives (ââ¬Å"The 7 Chakras for Beginners,â⬠2009.) The solar plexus chakra is commonly known as a gut feeling ââ¬â an intuitive sense closely connected to our level of personal power. Blockages to this chakra are thought to be related to ulcers, cancerous tumors, diabetes, hepatitis, anorexia, bulimia, and all stomach-related issues (Seaward, 2012, p. 74.) Should the Western Culture accept the solar plexus chakra, it would promote feelings of peace and inner harmony within oneââ¬â¢s self and in life. It would allow people to accept themselves complete ly, and respect the feelings and character traits of others (ââ¬Å"The Human Chakra System,â⬠2009.) The fourth chakra is known as the heart chakra. It is considered to be one of the most important energy centers of the body. The heart chakra refers to our ability to express love (Seaward, 2012, p. 74.) It is located in the center of the chest, just above the heart (ââ¬Å"The 7 Chakras for Beginners,â⬠2009.) The heart is not the only organ closely tied to this chakra as the lungs, breasts, and esophagus are included. Symptoms of a blocked heart chakra include heart attacks, enlarged heart, asthma, allergies, lung cancer, bronchial difficulties, circulation problems, and problems associated with the upper back and shoulders. An important association exists between the heart chakra and the thymus gland. The thymus gland gets smaller with age and is believed to be a reflection of the state of the heart chakra (Seaward, 2012, p. 74.) The advantage those in the Western Culture would see from accepting the heart chakra involve warmth, sincerity and happiness. These energies open th e hearts of others, inspiring confidence and creating joy among them (ââ¬Å"The Human Chakra System,â⬠2009.) The fifth charka is located and greatly connected to the throat. Organs associated with the throat chakra are the thyroid, parathyroid glands, mouth, vocal chords, and trachea. This chakra represents the development of personal expression, creativity, purpose in life, and willpower (Seaward, 2012, p. 74.) The inability to express oneself in feelings or creativity distorts the flow of energy to the throat chakra and is thought to result in chronic sore throat problems, throat and mouth cancers, stiffness in the neck area, thyroid dysfunction, migraines, and cancerous tumors in this region (Seaward, 2012, p. 75.) Upon acceptance of the throat chakra, individual feelings, thoughts and inner knowledge could be expressed freely and without fear. Individuals are not manipulated by otherââ¬â¢s opinions and they are able to stay true to who they really are without fear (ââ¬Å"The Human Chakra System,â⬠2009.) The sixth chakra, known as the brow or third eye, is located on the forehead, between the eye brows. It refers to our ability to focus on and see the big picture (ââ¬Å"The 7 Chakras for Beginners,â⬠2009.) This chakra is associated with intuition and the ability to access the ageless wisdom or bank of knowledge in the depths of the universal consciousness. As energy moves through the dimension of universal wisdom into this chakra, it promotes the development of intelligence and reasoning skills. The sixth chakra is directly connected with the pituitary and pineal gland and feeds energy to the brain for information processing. The wisdom channeled through the brow chakra is more universal in nature with implications for the spiritual aspect of life. Diseases caused by dysfunction of the brow chakra include brain tumors, hemorrhages, blood clots, blindness, comas, depression, and schizophrenia. These types of diseases are believed to be caused by an individualââ¬â¢s inability to see something that is extremely important to their soul growth (Seaward, 2012, p. 75.) The biggest advantage to the acceptance of the third eye chakra is an increased ability of visualization and comprehension of things intuitively. In todayââ¬â¢s society, too many people donââ¬â¢t trust their instincts (ââ¬Å"The Human Chakra System,â⬠2009.) The seventh is the crown chakra. It is located at the very top of our head. It represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually (ââ¬Å"The 7 Chakras for Beginners,â⬠2009.) The highest level of consciousness is reached when the crown chakra is fully open and functioning. Although no specific disease or illness may be associated the crown chakra, every disease has a spiritual significance (Seaward, 2012, p. 75.) Some of the emotional issues associated with this chakra include inner and outer beauty, our connection to spirituality, and pure bliss (ââ¬Å"The 7 Chakras for Beginners,â⬠2009.) Western Culture is accepting only of this chakra. In fact, it is highly useful in acupuncture therapy. Resources MindBodyGreen. (2009, October 27). Being a book critic, he said that he likes the book because it could entertain the reader. He gave as example the way Jonas first experience happiness, pain and sadness. According to him itââ¬â¢s funny at how Jonas felt simple things like seeing and feeling snow and feeling the warmth of the sun turn incredible for him. He also wanders what love is when given the memory of love by the Giver who told him that itââ¬â¢s his favorite emotion. Another instance is when Jonas wonders hoe life in his world will be if it is filled with colors and memories and emotion. This critic also said that to show true emotion, the author showed a tearful Jonas when he found out that his father, a doctor, administers lethal injection to infants who are released from the community for being sick and weak. Because of this, he does not want to live with his father who is a killer. Another example is when Jonas begins to fall in love with Fiona, his friend whom he saw naked in his dream. Delegation in Nursing Care - Assignment Example As the discussion outlines, based on the scenario presented in the case, it would be prudent for Rose to begin by attending to the most pressing issues. The most pressing issue, according to the case, that Rose should attend to first is Mr. R. in Room 228 whose pain medication is already late. This is because Mr. R. is feeling a lot of pain and his health might deteriorate if not attended to immediately. Therefore, it would be very critical for Rose to leave everything she intended to do to ensure that Mr. R. receives the necessary attention to save him from his immense pain.à If the reporter were the charge nurse, the following is how I would have done the patient assignment at the beginning of the shift: Firstly, the reporter would have ensured that all the patients in need of urgent care are attended to first. For instance, it emerged that Mr. R is complaining that his pain medication is late. Therefore, to avoid such situations, I would have ensured that all patients in dire ne ed of care are attended to first. This will be followed by ensuring that all the delegable tasks are assigned to different nurse assistants to ensure that all patients are attended to on time. Delegation would ensure that I only handle tasks, which are not delegable, such as those involving patient assessment, evaluation and judgment. From the list provided, there are a number of tasks which Rose cannot delegate. Firstly, Rose cannot delegate activity. This is because activity involves an assessment of the patient. Assessment activities must be done by a registered professional nurse, thus cannot be delegated. Secondly, Rose cannot delegate activity two since the activity involves the admission of medications, which must be administered by a registered professional nurse.Ã
